About Me
I am an engineer by education, an IT professional by occupation but an artist by choice. I spent most of my engineering days painting or thinking about painting. Life took over and I lost touch with the brush. When I became a mother, my life changed in more ways than I imagined. I rediscovered my love for painting and soon I was back on the drawing board at every possible chance. I got my first break by an art gallery set up by an old friend, and she helped me understand what it means to be a professional artist. I exhibited in various restaurants, shows and events and was also featured in the upcoming artist section in Better Interior Magazine in November 2010.
My painting career took off slowly and I got a lot of traction through my Facebook art page. My career got its biggest boost when an established art gallery in Singapore decided to take a chance on a self-taught artist. I don’t know if it would have helped me as an artist to get a formal education, but the process of learning makes me very excited and keeps me motivated. I experiment a lot with textures and techniques and everything around me inspires me to interpret it in my own unique way. I totally believe in the words by Ella Fitzgerald: "Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong." I love what I do, and every new painting inspires me to learn and do better.
Artistic Philosophy
My artistic philosophy is deeply rooted in the concept of tactile memory. I believe that art should not just be seen, but felt. By manipulating acrylics, embedding glass shards, and incorporating metallic textures, I aim to create a dialogue between the viewer and the material itself. Each piece is an exploration of heritage—a modern reimagining of ancient motifs, sacred geometry, and mythological narratives through a contemporary lens. The 'White Cube' space is not a void, but a breath; it allows the complexity of the textures to speak without competition, inviting a meditative engagement.
Artist Statement
I am an engineer by education; I was an IT professional by occupation but now am an artist by choice. I am an artist with a passion to create artwork using various media. I am inspired by things around me and my expertise is in the usage of a wide range of colors and textures. I strive to develop artwork that speaks to both me and the viewer, and is mostly an expression of my Indian roots. India is a place of diverse colors and subjects which has inspired me to use vibrant colors and motifs in most of my paintings.
I feel art of any kind can affect a person deeply and I want people to view my colorful and vibrant artwork and take home the feeling of positivity and happiness. If the colors, story or composition of my paintings make the viewer stop and take a moment, I feel like I achieved my goal.
